There is no permanent cure of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) but there are several theories that are used to slow down the infection rate and reduce its complication.
The treatment of HIV through medication is known as antiretroviral therapy (ART). antiretroviral therapy is given to the HIV infected person and it is the combination of medicine generally known as HIV treatment regimes. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) does not cure HIV infection, it only reduces viral count in the blood so that it becomes undetectable.
ART increases the life expectancy of the person.
Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs):
Non- nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors( NNTIs):
Protease inhibitors (PIs):
Darunavir is an antiretroviral drug that is used in the treatment of HIV infection. It is only used in the treatment of HIV Type 1 and is ineffective against type 2. It belongs to two protease inhibitors class that works by blocking the HIV protease activity and inhibiting its darunavir. It is generally used in combination with other medications such as ritonavir to increase the effectiveness of darunavir in the blood. Ritonavir works as the Pharmacokinetic booster that is used in a very low amount that boosts the amount of darunavir in the human body. The doors of darunavir is generally decided by body weight, age, stage of infection.
Darunavir is available in the market in tablet form of different concentrations such as 75 mg, 150 mg, 400 mg, and 600 mg.
Darunavir 600 mg and Darunavir 800 mg ( two tablets of 400mg in a day) are high concentration doses that are used mainly to treat a patient suffering from serious HIV infection. The high concentration dose of darunavir is generally accompanied with ritonavir to boost up its effect.
According to a study which was conducted on patients who had never taken any Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) treatment, darunavir was more effective. The effect of Darunavir 800mg was identical to the effect of the combined medications lopinavir/ritonavir.
On 21 October 2008, FDA approved this drug for people not previously treated for HIV. Darunavir 600mg is generally quite good with its tolerability amongst the people.
